Ready to buy a Trane?
We make buying a Trane simple
There’s a lot to consider when purchasing an HVAC system. To make it easier, we’ve collected the tools and information you need most to make the right choice.
Buying a heating and cooling system
When buying a new home heating and cooling system, it’s important to know what you want most and what combination of system and features offers the best solution for your home. The best way to get started is to remember and follow these three steps: Prepare, Research and Shop.
Step 1 Prepare
Think about your home and lifestyle
Buying a Trane heating and air conditioning system is a big decision. And a personal one. Take this time to think about your comfort needs and what features are most important for you and the climate you live in. This will help you make sure you get the right Trane system.
Things to consider:
• air quality needs
• energy usage
• local climate
Ask your dealer:
• What size HVAC system do I need?
• What’s the most popular system in my area?
Step 2 Research
Do your homework and pick your features
Recent innovations in heating and cooling technology and energy efficiency make this a great time to upgrade your current system. Check out the latest Trane heating and air conditioning products and compare today’s features to your current system. You’ll be surprised by how much you can save.
Things to consider:
• efficiency ratings
• energy savings
• heat pump or furnace
Ask your dealer:
• How much can I save on energy?
• What’s a good SEER rating?
Step 3 Shop
Choose the system and dealer that’s right for you
You want to make sure the investment you make now will last for years to come. After all, that’s why you’re choosing a Trane heating and cooling system. Review the ratings of local Trane dealers to find the right one to install your new system. Plus, don’t forget to ask about financing options, special offers and rebates, as well as tax credits.
Things to consider:
• Financing Options
• Warranty
• Reviews
Ask your dealer:
• Is it time to repair or replace?
• Do I need a smart home thermostat?
What your HVAC dealer can do for you
Unless you’re an HVAC professional, you’re gonna need help. Your dealer does more than just sell and install new products and keep them running smooth. They’re your go-to resource and trusted guide to finding the perfect heating and cooling system.
Your HVAC dealer is your guide
Do you have asthma or pets? Do you live in a hot climate? JefCo Air Conditioning & Refrigeration can show you what solution is best for you.
We’re Comfort Specialists, not salesmen
JefCo Air Conditioning & Refrigeration works with you to find an HVAC system that will make your home feel better and lower your energy costs too.
3 keys to buying the right HVAC system
1. Buy the right size system. Your energy savings and performance will suffer if you buy a system that’s too small or too large for your home.
2. Look at efficiency ratings. You can save money over time with a more efficient system.
3. Consider your climate. Do you need a heat pump or furnace? Is a packaged system right? Your local dealer knows what systems work best for your area.
When you need to improve the quality of air inside your home or business, our skilled technicians can help by installing air purifiers, air filtration systems, whole home humidifiers, and dehumidifiers. We will work with you to create a customized solution that fits your exact needs. We offer top-quality work at affordable rates, along with unparalleled customer service. Trane HVAC Pricing Guide
Multiple factors like where you live and how your home was constructed affect the cost of a new system and installation.
Trane HVAC Prices
The price of a new Trane HVAC unit or system will vary depending on the unit you choose. Because so many factors can affect the price of a Trane air conditioner, furnace or heat pump, listing a true price for your home isn’t always possible – or accurate. For a custom estimate, contact JefCo Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, a Trane Comfort Specialist.
TRANE CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONER PRICES
The cost of a Trane air conditioner ranges depending on the air conditioner’s efficiency rating, cooling stages and size will affect the cost as well as where you live and the difficulty of the installation. Contact JefCo Air Conditioning & refrigeration to get a custom estimate.

TRANE GAS FURNACE PRICES
The average cost of a Trane furnace ranges in price from $1,290 to $2,676 with most homeowners paying $1,718. A furnace’s efficiency rating, heating stages and size will affect the cost as well as where you live and the difficulty of the installation. Check out our average furnace prices below and then follow up with one of our experts to get a custom estimate.
TRANE HEAT PUMP PRICES
The average cost of a Trane heat pump ranges in price from $1,803 to $4,189 with most homeowners paying $2,770. A heat pump’s efficiency rating, heating and cooling stages and size will affect the cost as well as where you live and the difficulty of the installation. Check out our average heat pump prices below and then follow up with one of our experts to get a custom estimate.
How We Got These Prices
The prices featured here represent the most common average prices nationwide of each Trane product. Prices may vary in your area. Installation Cost includes the product price and the national average installation price.
A note about installation cost: Installation prices can increase on average 20-30% depending on where you live. If your project requires new ductwork, the installation cost will increase $1,500 – $2,000. See more details.
Factors that affect the price include:
• Climate and region where you live
• Construction and age of your home
• Condition of existing duct work
• Project difficulty
• Special product features
The good news is that you can save on your installation costs with tax credits, special offers and manufacturer rebates. You can also make the expense more manageable by taking advantage of flexible financing options. Ultimately, a licensed dealer will need to assess your home and install a system that’s perfect for you and your budget.
These are the key factors your Trane HVAC expert will take into consideration for your estimate.
1. Climate and Region
Where you live affects your efficiency
Region and climate matter when finding the right system for your home and saving energy. According to DOE efficiency standards, the same size home located in the southern half of the United States will require a larger capacity air conditioning system than a similar home in the northern half of the United States. Of course, a home located in the northern half of the United States will need a larger heating capacity requirement than a home in the south.
See special savings and offers in your area
2. Your Home’s Construction
Heating and cooling your home starts with the foundation
Homes with well-insulated windows, doors, walls, roofs, attics, floors, basements, and crawl spaces, along with sealed exterior cracks and seams, typically require less air conditioning and heating capacity than homes that are not well-insulated. Also, if you have a large home, you’ll need a larger unit or even multiple systems — which will cost more.
Consider tax credits for upgrades
3. Existing Ductwork in Your Home
Your ductwork can maximize comfort and minimize energy use
Ductwork is the air distribution system in your home that directs and delivers heated or cooled air. The duct plays a crucial role in determining how comfortable your home is from room to room. When properly designed and installed, a duct system can maximize comfort and minimize energy use.
If it is time to replace your system, you should consider making ductwork improvements at the same time your dealer installs the new system. New ductwork can cost around $2,000-$3,000 because it’s extremely labor intensive and can take a few days to install when done correctly.
View pricing guidelines
4. Project Difficulty
Challenging installations can cost more
It’s the details that will often drive your price higher, but usually they’re worth it to get the job done right. Additional costs will show up when your project is extra challenging. If you have a hard-to-access space for your system, live in a historic home that requires retrofitting, need custom parts or additional insulation, you’ll see your HVAC installation price increase.
Look at financing options
5. Special Features
Extras can add up to extra comfort
Your cost can also go up by adding on enhancements like climate zones with a ComfortLink™ II Zoning System or a Trane CleanEffects™ air cleaner. These added features mean added comfort and are worth the extra expense. You’ll also pay a little more for a system with a higher SEER rating, but you’ll see savings in your energy bills.
Understanding HVAC installation costs
Buying a new Trane HVAC system requires help from a professional dealer and your installation pricing will include more than just the purchase of the system.
Though the costs are higher than most household appliance purchases, the payoff is in the comfort you’ll experience year-round for many seasons to come. Also, you can feel good about your purchase knowing Trane systems come with a warranty that can range from 1 year to 20 years, depending on the product.

Federal Tax Credits
The federal government offers energy efficiency tax credits
For qualified HVAC improvements, homeowners may be able to claim 25C tax credits equal to 10% of the installed costs (up to $500 maximum). Credits may even be higher for renewable energy, like geothermal systems.
The Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 was signed in February 2018, renewing a number of tax credits for residential energy efficiency that had expired at the end of 2016. Tax credits for non-business energy property are now available retroactive to purchases made through December 31, 2017. Tax credits for all residential renewable energy products have been extended through December 31, 2020, and feature a gradual step down in the credit value.
Federal Tax Credit Update
Federal Tax credits for residential energy efficiency have now expired. Any qualified equipment installed prior to January 1, 2018 is eligible for credit. Equipment installed on or after January 1, 2018 is not eligible for credit. Tax credits for all residential renewable energy products have been extended through December 31, 2020, and feature a gradual step down in the credit value.
For more information on federal energy tax credits, visit Energystar.gov.
The following Trane residential products qualify for a federal tax credit:
• Split system air conditioning – must meet 25C requirements of 16 SEER/13 EER (both efficiency levels must be met to qualify for the tax credit) Manufacturer’s Certificate
• Split system heat pump – must meet 25C requirements of 15 SEER/12.5 EER/8.5 HSPF (all three efficiency levels must be met to qualify for the tax credit) Manufacturer’s Certificate
• Gas furnace – must meet 25C requirements of 95% AFUE Manufacturer’s Certificate
• Advanced main air circulating fan – gas furnace or packaged system with an advanced circulating fan that utilizes no more than 2% of furnace total energy use per 25c requirements. Manufacturer’s Certificate
• Packaged air conditioning, heat pump or dual fuel products – must meet 25C requirements of 14 SEER, 12 EER, 8 HSPF Manufacturer’s Certificate
State and Local Tax Credits
Find information about local energy tax credits
Take a look at the energy tax credit programs available in your area. Tax credit initiatives and rebate promotions change frequently, so it’s best to consult with a local tax official. A great resource on local tax credit information is dsireusa.org. You can search the DSIRE Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency®.
See all Trane products that qualify for rebates.
Before you buy a new heating and cooling product, make sure to take advantage of local rebates in your area. Check back often as these deals can change. Find local rebates
Pro Tip
How to apply for a residential energy tax credit
Subject to IRS regulations, tax credits apply as a direct reduction of taxes owed. To apply for an energy efficient tax credit, you need to:
1. Submit the proper form. Use Form 5695 for residential energy credits.
2. Save the Manufacturer’s Certification Statement for your records.
3. Consult your tax professional for advice on taking advantage of energy efficient tax credits.

Is your HVAC covered by a home warranty?
A home warranty policy can provide extra protection for heating and cooling systems and often includes coverage for repair costs. Of course that coverage comes at a cost. Whether your home warranty plan covers your current HVAC system depends on the plan you have. Be sure to research and compare plans carefully. Consider your level of DIY skills and decide if you’d feel better if your HVAC system had additional coverage.
HVAC home warranty pros
• Peace of mind if purchasing an older home with an older system.
• Fixed repair costs per visit.
HVAC home warranty cons
• Dollar limit cap per repair or per year.
• Repair or replace decision not yours to make. If replaced, you may not get to choose the new model.
Trane serial numbers – what they mean
In addition to being necessary to register for a Trane warranty, your serial number includes some vital information about your unit – if you can decipher the confusing serial number nomenclature. A Trane serial number includes:
• Manufacturing date (year, month, week, day).
• Manufacturing plant location.
• Sequential number.
Trane model number breakdown
The model number of your new air conditioner or furnace actually tells you a lot about the features of your new system. Here’s what all the numbers and letters of your Trane model number mean:
• Type of hvac unit.
• Refrigerant types.
• Seer rating.
• Heating input.
• Heating stages.
• Furnace configuration.
• Hvac ton.
• Voltage.
• Compressor series.
